My first ACEO (Artist Cards, Editions and Originals) that I completed. A Sappho Comet hummingbird has been attracted by the floral wreathe around this cat's neck, who is kinda "Ummm....ok!". This was fun to do, frustrating because I was experimenting, yet the fun outwieghed the ARGH. There are a lot of mistakes, I didn't use reference for the cat (unless Tigerlilly happened to be walking by) and only looked at a Sappho comet photo to make sure I got the color gradiations somewhat similar to the real thing. I learned from this!
I love hummingbirds, and Sappho Comets, or Red Tailed Comets as they are commonly referred to these days, are among my favorites. These are the birds Enya refers to in her song "China Roses." Hummers are so bold and confident, it's really a joy when they come down to say hi...where's my sugar water human! Hee. The thought of a friendly cat being visited by a hungry hummer was too cute an idea to pass up.

I love this, it's so cute! And the research you did for the bird paid off, it looks beautiful :3
I love how it also looks like the cat is wearing the bird like some sort of ornament, like a hat or a hairpin for felines XD
Great stuff! Beautiful lighting! Love it!

hahaha, I can definitely see the 'disturbed' look in the cat, assuming that the partially closed/stressed left eyelid on the right is intentional. Hummingbirds are scary! I mean, I can imagine getting stuck by one of those and yelling "OW!!! But... dizzarnitall! It's too cute... OWCH!... darn... cute... angry... things *mental trauma/struggle*"
Anyhoo, I love the backdrop, the vibrance and all... spiffy! The cat... looking like "dooooon't... moooove"... the hummingbird staring into your soul (evilly, of course). I thought the feet would be visible, but oh dear, I won't poke crits are this since, like you said, this was a first. I've done watercolors on index cards before... and still do. That's mad fun!
